Moving our manufacturing to the UK 🇬🇧
- Before launching Tuggs a key issue that I faced was finding an appropriate manufacturer - making fresh dog food is not easy, and the difficulties are compounded due to the fact that there are almost no pet food manufacturers in the UK who can do it. Traditional manufacturers produce dry and wet products and therefore do not have freezers that are required for fresh ingredients nor the cooking equipment needed for processing fresh food. As such, after almost a year of failed negotiations with UK companies, we began manufacturing with a partner in Italy in September 2022.

Whilst this meant we were able to launch the UK’s first fresh, insect-based dog food onto the market, the concept of using Italian ingredients and importing food from Europe has never sat right with our team. Sustainability is at the heart of our brand, and I knew we needed to find a better solution.

I am incredibly proud to announce that, as our business has grown over the last 18 months to the point that we are now feeding close to 40,000 meals per month, we are now manufacturing in a pet food kitchen in the north of England. Our supply chain is localised with all meats responsibly sourced from nearby farms where the animals are well cared for - to some of the highest standards in the country. Similarly, all vegetables are sourced from the UK as are our insects.

This is one of the biggest steps forward that we have made as a company to date, and I'm grateful to all of those who are on this journey with us.
